This is the concise English guide. The Turkish edition includes the extended itinerary and planning notes.
Morning: the square and Mihrimah Sultan Mosque
Start at the waterfront square. Finding your transport connections and return point first makes the rest of the day easier. Mihrimah Sultan Mosque is one of Mimar Sinan’s works in Üsküdar. If visiting conditions allow, spend time in the courtyard rather than viewing it only from across the square.
For an interior visit, respect prayer times and staff instructions. Keep entrances clear when taking photographs and leave room in the morning simply to look around.
Midday: a break in the market
Head into the market streets behind the square for lunch or coffee. Rather than committing to several venues in advance, check menus, prices and seating when you arrive. This is also a useful break before continuing along the waterfront.
Afternoon: from Şemsi Pasha to Salacak
At Şemsi Pasha Mosque, pay attention to how the building meets the water: that relationship gives the stop its character. Continue towards Salacak for a view of the Maiden’s Tower. A boat trip to the tower is a separate visit from the shoreline walk; check departure points, tickets and services independently.
Make the route your own
In rain, strong wind or fatigue, keep the day to the square and market. If travelling with a pushchair, luggage or mobility needs, check steps and pavements on a current map and on arrival. Leave extra time for the return journey if you have evening plans.
